What is this portfolio for?
This portfolio intends to share my best work from my college courses, currently Writing 181. This portfolio contains project, assignments, and reflections in my writing.
Why did you make this portfolio?
Currently, Goucher offers the Mahara ePortfolio system to create, edit, publish, and share portfolios. However, the Mahara software is a bit convoluted in portfolio creation and doesn’t make portfolio creation any easier. Suffice to say, it isn’t as complicated as using Sibelius for music creation. Because of this, I decided to create my own portfolio system using the Jekyll static site generator as a base for the project.
- This portfolio comes with its own “document viewer” of sorts. I have turned my essays into Markdown-compatible drafts that can be rendered as HTML. If a scholar wants to print the document, it will automatically convert it to a “scholarly” paper with MLA headings and spacing. Currently, this does not include biliographies.
- Each project or assignment comes with its own “cover page” with a title, details, and a brief description of the document. The page may also contain related resources, configured by front matter. All of these pages also have comment sections powered by Disqus, a platform for discussion.
